What is the Friends club?
Kidderminster Railway Museum is a registered charity staffed entirely by volunteers. We not charge an entrance fee and rely on money from sponsors and fund raising initiatives to pay our daily bills and provide funds for future development. The Friends of the museum are a group of people willing to help support us financially. Money generated by the Friends Club helps secure the museum's future as well as making a number of long term capital projects possible.
What has Friends Club money been used for so far?
It has always been our policy that money raised from the Freinds Club is not used for paying our daily bills, but rather is used for important capital projects so that Friends can see the improvements made to the museum with their money. Examples of projects which have been made possible by the kindness of our Friends include the Alvechurch Booking Office display, archive storage, Rogart signal cabin, the new telephone exchange display, the provision of security fencing around the site, and even the purchase of some additional computer equipment to ensure that we were able to publish this website.
How do I become a Friend?
Friends of the museum either arrange to pay the museum a regular amount (monthly or annually) or donate a lump sum. No matter how small the amount is, it is very much appreciated. The great thing from our point of view is that if you are a taxpayer, we can claim back additional money from the Inland Revenue, amounting to nearly one-third of your own contribution. So for every £100 we receive from the Friends Club, the Inland Revenue very kindly give us an additional £28. Needless to say, this is a vital element of our fund-raising activities (and gives us great pleasure in receiving money from the Inland Revenue rather than having to give it to them!)

What are the benefits of becoming a Friend?
We cannot offer you a vast amount in return for your generosity. The main thing is that you are supporting a very worthy cause, but we also give you a membership card which can be used for:
Free access to the museum library and archive.
10% off all purchases in the museum shop.
10% off all refreshments purchased in the museum tea room.
Money off courses run by the museum (including signalling courses).

Friends also receive a regular newsletter with information about museum developments and an up-to-date guide listing events at the museum.
